Another Stop Along the Way

Another Stop Along the Way
Oil on Canvas
24 x 24

This painting will be presented in the Calgary show "How the Arts Impact My Life" in May. This exhibition by artists, art teachers, and students has been put together to raise awareness of the importance of art in education. All of the pieces will be available for purchase, with the proceeds going to the children's charity, Dreams Take Flight. My youngest daughter will also be exhibiting in this province-wide exhibition.

Tomato Pincushion

Tomato Pincushion

oil on board

7 x 5

I've been wanting to paint this one for a while - I always liked the tomato pincushion. It seemed like everyone's mom had one, and when I moved out on my own and had my own sewing kit - I had to have one too!

Garlic Pickles - Mom's Recipe

Garlic Pickles - Mom's Recipe

Oil on Board

5 x 7

I love homemade garlic pickles! I also loved painting them! The glass, as always, was a challenge for me, but I am very happy with the variety of colors in the pickles themselves.

I am thrilled to announce that this painting from my pepper series was selected and purchased as a prize in an upcoming fundraiser for the Arts and Culture Society of Strathcona County.

Caramel Log

Caramel Log

3.5 x 2.5

oil on canvas paper

This candy certainly takes me back! When I was a child, you could only find this candy bar in Newfoundland, so the only time I could have it was when I went home for the summer...even now, I come back with a pile of them in my suitcase. This candy bar showed up in a few other dailies lately (soon to be posted)...I guess I am feeling a little bit nostalgic these days.

Mango with Mexican Scarf

Mango with Mexican Scarf

oil on canvas

6 x 6

This is the last in the series of square paintings with the Mexican scarf. I jove the variety of colors in the mango - this one was a delight to paint! All four squares are available for purchase on my etsy site at www.etsy.com/shop/kristinasteinbring.

Piggyback

Piggyback

oil on canvas

10 x 10

Although this is not one of my usual daily paintings - I actually completed it in two sittings - I thought I would include it anyway, as it was painted from life and always fits in so nicely with my other pepper paintings. I had a lot of fun with this composition, as well as with depicting the colors and sheen of the peppers.

Lilacs in Mason Jar

Lilacs in Mason Jar

oil on canvas

12x12

The lilacs are coming and going so quickly, I am afraid this will be the last lilac painting for the year! Maybe I need to take a week off work each year when the lilacs bloom - that, I think, will be the only way to get enough time in to capture them all on canvas! I like the square composition in this one.

Lilacs-First Cut

Lilacs-First Cut

oil on board

5x7

I have been trying to take the odd break from the grain elevator series to work on a few dailies...and the lilacs are irresistable! This is the first lilac painting this season, and I am looking forward to them all fully blooming so I can try my hand at a few more. I loved painting the rich purples of this little sprig of blossoms!

Creamo

Creamo

oil on canvas

5x7

This is another daily from my annual painting trip - highlighting one of my favourite parts of the day...my morning coffee. Such a peaceful routine each morning which is the best time on our trips to review the previous day's work! The details on the carton were a bit of a challenge, but it definitely finished recognizable!

Pickles

Pickles
oil on canvas
12x6
This was a fun painting! These pickles were a gift from one of our many wonderful neighbours, and I just had to make sure I captured them on canvas before we cracked them open!

Purple Shot

Purple Shot
oil on canvas
6x6
I brought back the shot glass again, this time with a couple of sprigs of purple monkshood from my perrenial garden. It made such a simple and striking composition! I don't often paint flowers, but I think next year there may be a series of dailies from the garden...

Jug-O-Tomatoes

Tomato Jug
oil on board
10x8
Before I moved on from the whole tomato run, I thought I would try a slightly larger, more ambitious painting with this small antique jug. I like the little tumble of tomatoes showing through the glass of the old jug. This little garden of mine has been a great source of subject matter this summer!

Tomato Shot

Tomato Shot

oil on board

7x5

Another painting of my series of little "shots" - this one with some tomatoes from my garden. I am really happy with the shine on the smooth skin of the cherry tomatoes and the way they just fit so neatly into that little shot glass!

Sugar Daddy

Sugar Daddy

oil on board

5x7

This one was a lot of fun - almost as much fun as the trip to the candy store to look for painting subjects. All of the different kinds of candy just brought back so many penny candy memories!

The label was difficult, but enjoyable to paint.

Zip-locked Tomatoes

Zip-Locked Tomatoes

oil on board

5x7

These are the first of the tomatoes from my "garden" ... all done in containers, but as I said before, I haven't killed anything yet, and it is the closest thing to a garden that I have ever had. I guess this painting could go under my "stuff in stuff" category - I loved painting the plastic bag, right down to the blue and red stripes of the zip lock top!

Five Cherries

Five Cherries
oil on board
5x7
During my recent holiday, I was doing dailies every day and in looking for ideas asked for some help on Facebook for some fresh new subject matter. There was definitely a variety of responses! One of my friends suggested B.C. cherries, and this was the first of the cherry paintings that came from that suggestion. It didn't photograph well; wet, with lots of glare, but you get the idea.

Red Grapes

Red Grapes

oil on board

5x7

I thought the yellow background provided a nice contrast with the rich red of the grapes. I enjoyed painting the variations of color on each grape.

Three Tomatoes

Three Tomatoes
oil on board
5x7
I like this composition! And the color! It's no wonder vine-ripened tomatoes rarely make it to the salad before I get get to paint them! This one was really fun to paint.

Gamsol and Oil

Gamsol and Oil

oil on board

7x5

This was a fun painting. I loved painting the soft yellow and warm honey-colored oils. A subject maybe only another artist would appreciate, but I learned a lot in the process!
