After the Breakup

After the Breakup

oil on canvas

6x6

I guess I should have posted the other cherry painting first...but I will keep you in suspense. I was really drawn to the very obvious missing cherry in this little composition. Tried a lighter background on this one, and had fun pushing the paint around, adding color without getting too dark.

Yellow Roses

Yellow Roses

oil on canvas

5x7

I am not a big flower painter, but I received these from my sister-in-law, and I just couldn't resist! They were so lovely. The black background may be a bit strong, but I liked the contrast - next time I will try something a little softer. It felt good to keep the brushwork loose and spontaneous - a hard thing for me when I paint.

Creamo

Creamo

oil on canvas

5x7

This is another daily from my annual painting trip - highlighting one of my favourite parts of the day...my morning coffee. Such a peaceful routine each morning which is the best time on our trips to review the previous day's work! The details on the carton were a bit of a challenge, but it definitely finished recognizable!

Elevator Sunrise

Elevator Sunrise

oil on board

5x7

This fun little elevator painting came out of a sky study for a larger elevator piece - I was just mashing some colors around on the board to work out what I liked, and then I just couldn't resist finishing the painting. Very loose - lots of fun pushing the paint around on this one!

T Times 3

T Times 3

oil on canvas

5 x 7

I do love painting tomatoes! Maybe it's the richness of the reds, or the highlights, or even the gnarled vines....I just enjoy painting them. I guess maybe I hope people enjoy looking at them, too!

This upcoming weekend I will be participating in the one day Beacon Original Art Spring Show and Sale. It takes place at Bridgeland - Riverside Community Hall, 917 Centre Avenue NE in Calgary, Alberta. It will be open Saturday only from 10:00 to 4:00. Come on out and take in the work of 13 Amazing artists! I will be featuring many of my dailies in this event.
Hope to see you there!

Cutlery

Cutlery

oil on canvas

5 x 7

This was a fun daily done on my annual painting trip with Tammy Watt. Although I worked on larger pieces for my grain elevator series (upcoming show - Nov/Dec 2011), it was nice to loosen up and continue to sharpen my skills with a few dailies. I enjoyed the limited color palette with this little painting, and arranging the utensils for the perfect composition. I can see a repeat of this subject matter coming up!

Back to the Pepper Obsession....

Little Hotties

oil on canvas

5 x 7

It's like I just can't help myself when it comes to these colorful little gems - I am simply drawn to them in the grocery store! Even the kids, when shopping with me, see that look in my eyes and before I can even reach for the peppers, say, "Mom... No. No more peppers!". I haven't had to resort to sneaking them into the house yet, though. Although this one didn't photograph well, I enjoyed creating this tidy little composition.
